About Us

Built by freight operators, for freight operators

We built ClearLane after years of living the same problem ourselves: talented teams buried in paperwork instead of growing the business. ClearLane exists to take that administrative weight off the people running the company.

Our Story

Why ClearLane Exists

ClearLane was founded by operators with deep experience across freight brokerage, logistics, and transportation operations. From dispatch floors to billing departments, from carrier management to accounts receivable.

We spent years inside fast-growing brokerages with strong sales teams and solid carrier networks, and watched the back office quietly fall behind. Late PODs delayed billing cycles. Carrier invoices went unverified. Accessorial charges slipped through the cracks. Accounts receivable (AR) aged past 90 days while nobody had time to follow up.

Talent was never the bottleneck; operational infrastructure was. Freight companies have had two options: hire fixed in-house staff they can’t scale with freight market cycles, or accept revenue leakage as a cost of doing business.

ClearLane exists to give every freight broker the operational backbone of a top-tier brokerage without the fixed overhead. We combine North America-based account management with dedicated operational teams, standardized playbooks, and technology-enhanced workflows to deliver reliable back-office operations at scale.

Our team knows what a rate confirmation looks like, how detention charges get missed, why carrier invoices don’t match, and what happens when AR falls behind. We built this company because we’ve lived these problems firsthand.

We publish the formula behind every number we quote, including what each one excludes: how we measure it.

Leadership

Who runs ClearLane

Alexander Kochas founded ClearLane after nine years running freight finance and operations from the inside. He spent those years in the CFO seat at operating logistics companies, including Reliable Transportation Link, a drayage and intermodal company serving Canada and the US, and Metropolitan Logistics, which handles container drayage, freight forwarding, warehousing, transloading, and export crating. The work ClearLane runs for clients is work he has owned for years: carrier and customer billing, AR and AP, compliance files, and the reporting that owners actually read. Today that function ships to clients as owner reporting with fractional CFO support: the packages, statements, and deal-ready financials a CFO would build, produced as a desk. He also leads fractional CFO engagements directly, in limited number.

He also built the system ClearLane runs on. The portal that tracks every post-dispatch task and shows clients their billing accuracy, AR aging, and turnaround times started as the tool he needed inside his own operations.

Frequently asked questions

Who founded ClearLane and why?

ClearLane was founded by freight industry operators who lived the problem firsthand: talented teams buried in paperwork instead of moving freight. The back-office functions that drive cash flow (POD retrieval, invoice verification, billing, collections) kept ending up understaffed, error-prone, or both. ClearLane was built to give freight brokers the operational infrastructure of a large brokerage without the fixed overhead.

Neither. ClearLane is a managed operations provider. Unlike staffing agencies that provide bodies without processes, or traditional outsourcing firms that apply generic workflows to every industry, ClearLane combines trained freight specialists, documented operational playbooks, technology-enhanced workflows, and North America-based account management into a single integrated service. Every process is built specifically for freight brokerage operations.

Every client engagement follows documented operational playbooks with daily quality assurance sampling, error tracking, and root cause analysis. Your dedicated team is trained on your specific workflows, rate structures, and customer requirements. Weekly performance reports give you full visibility into accuracy rates, turnaround times, and any exceptions flagged during the week.

Four principles guide every engagement. Accuracy over speed: getting it right matters more than getting it fast. Aligned incentives: revenue recovery pricing means ClearLane earns more when you earn more. Transparency: weekly reporting and TMS-level visibility, so you always know what is happening. Continuous improvement: every error is documented and processes are updated to prevent recurrence.

Every team member signs comprehensive NDAs and undergoes background checks before accessing any client system. Client data is logically isolated. No client’s data is ever used to benefit another client. Access is role-based, meaning team members only see data relevant to their assigned accounts. All TMS access uses individual credentials with activity logging.
